A former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has said that president Muhammadu Buhari’s WAEC issue is a matter of “perjury and not whether he is qualified to be president or not.
This was in reaction to the claim by Festus Keyamo, the Spokesman for the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign Council that under the Nigerian constitution, one does not need a WAEC certificate to become President of Nigeria.
Keyamo had in an interview with Channels TV on Sunday claimed that if you have occupied the public office for a reasonable length of time, you do not need a WAEC certificate to become president of Nigeria.
However, Fani-Kayode on his Twitter page on Monday wrote: “Buhari may not need a WAEC certificate to contest but once he swore to an affidavit or presented a form indicating that his qualifications include WAEC, it becomes a different matter. Or has he withdrawn his WAEC claim? This is a matter of perjury and not whether he is qualified.”
