President of the African Development Bank Group, Akinwunmi Adesina has defended former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon after he was accused of leaving with half of Central Bank.
Recall that during a debate on sanctions against the Nigerian government for alleged human rights violations during the #EndSARS protest, British lawmaker, Tom Tungendhat advocate for sanctions against Nigerian officials who flee to the UK with the country’s loot.
He went on to mention Gowon as one of the corrupt leaders, stating that he left the county with half of Central Bank.
Reacting to this, Akinwunmi Adesina defended Yakubu Gowon as he urges everyone to be careful of misinformation.
According to him, Gowon’s honesty and integrity are impeccable.
The AfDB President further described him as a great and admirable elder statesman.
“Be careful of misinformation! H.E. General Yakubu Gowon, Nigeria’s former Head of State, is a man of great honour, decency, honesty, amazing simplicity, humility and integrity. I know him. A great and admirable elder statesman of Nigeria. His honesty and integrity are impeccable.”
