10 people were left wounded in an early morning shooting on the edge of the city’s historic French Quarter, an area popular with residents and tourists.
According to reports, the shooting which happened on Canal Street, new Orlean left two of the victims in critical condition, the police said.
Officers near the scene of the shooting reported hearing gunfire around 3:21 a.m. On reaching there, they found out that multiple individuals had been shot.
The police said on Twitter that a person was detained near the scene but that the individual’s “possible involvement” in the shooting remained under investigation, and that no arrests had been made since It was not clear what had motivated the shooting.
“The shootings on Canal Street early this morning were an ugly disruption of an otherwise beautiful holiday weekend,” LaToya Cantrell, the mayor, said on Twitter. “We will do everything we can to wrap the victims and their families in our love and support, and to bring the criminals responsible to justice.”
The shooting occurred after the Bayou Classic, an annual football game between two historically black universities, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
