President Muhammadu Buhari has joined the world to condole with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron and her citizens over the tragic fire incident that gutted parts of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris yesterday.
French authorities revealed that the cathedral was within “15 to 30 minutes” of complete destruction as firefighters battled to stop flames reaching its gothic bell towers.
However, despite fears that the whole cathedral would be lost due to the height of the inferno, the structure appears mainly intact.
Reacting, Buhari in a statement by his spokesman, Malam Garba Shehu on Tuesday extended his sympathy to Christians in Nigeria and all over the world following the partial destruction of the historical Cathedral.
The statement read: “President Buhari and Nigerians joined the world in shock and disbelief as the highly revered and historical church building went up in flames on Monday, praying that the almighty God will provide resources and capacity for full restoration.
”As one of UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites, a central place of worship for Christians and symbol of France, the President urges joint faith in prayers for the country and its citizens.”
