Lagos Building Collapse: Governor Ajimobi Reacts

The Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi has condoled with the State government and families of those who died in the tragic collapse of a three-storeyed building in Itafaji area of Lagos Island on Wednesday.

The building, which housed a private primary school on its second floor, caved in while school was in progress killing at least 12 people, including nine pupils.

Reacting, Ajimobi, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr Bolaji Tunji expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incident.

He called on the Lagos State governor, Akinwunmi Ambode to ensure those who might have contributed to the tragedy do not escape the appropriate punishment.

He also appealed that the public, especially stakeholders in the construction industry, should abide strictly with extant building regulations and ensure that their works meet up with required standards.

Part of the statement read: “I am deeply saddened by the loss of lives, including schoolchildren, occasioned by the unfortunate incident.

“The families are grieving now. The government and people of Oyo State share in their grief.

“We pray that God will comfort and strengthen them, and also grant them the needed fortitude at this trying period. May the Almighty repose the soul of the deceased.”
