Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has said that she felt terrible to keep condoling people for “careless deaths” that better governance and accountability would have prevented.
This was in reaction to the collapse of a three-storeyed building, which left many dead and injured in Itafaji area of Lagos Island on Wednesday.
The building, which housed a private primary school on its second floor, caved in while school was in progress killing at least 12 people, including nine pupils.
Reacting, Ezekwesili, on her twitter handle, said Nigerians especially the children deserved better.
She tweeted: “Just catching up on the horrific #ItaFajiBuildingCollapse. My heart breaks at how frequently our country fails our children.
“It feels terrible to keep condoling people for careless deaths that better governance and accountability would prevent.
“Our children do not deserve this.”
