Senate Adjourns Plenary Over Hon. Temitope Olatoye’s Death

 Police Arrest Oyo Chief Whip Over Olatoye’s Assassination

The Senate has adjourned the Tuesday plenary till Wednesday, 13 March 2019 over the death of Hon. Temitope Olatoye Sugar representing Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.

This was following a point of Order by the Senate leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan, to suspend plenary as a result of the death of the lawmaker in the lower chamber.

“Mr. President and my respected colleagues, I rise under Order 43 that in keeping with our tradition that when a sad event happened, we suspend parliamentary activities as a mark of respect.

“You will recall that Honourable Temitope Olatoye Sugar died during the election and I hereby move a motion for adjournment till Wednesday.”

Senator Biodun Olujimi representing Ekiti South Senatorial district seconded the motion.

The Senate president, Bukola Saraki adjourned plenary till Wednesday after a minute silence was observed by the lawmakers.

Hon. Temitope Olatoye popularly known as Sugar was reportedly shot in the eye by unknown gunmen in Ibadan during the governorship election on Saturday, March 9, 2019, by supporters of his political rival, Hon. Adigun Ahmed also known as Murphy.
