Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) are currently investigating a rape allegation against popular football star, Cristiano Ronaldo.
According to a statement released yesterday by the police spokeswoman, Officer Laura Meltzer, the investigators sent a warrant to a court in Italy, where Ronaldo plays for the famed club, Juventus requesting a sample of the Portuguese football superstar’s DNA.
This is coming after one Kathryn Mayorga had said in a lawsuit that Ronaldo raped her in a Las Vegas hotel room in the year 2009 while she repeatedly screamed no.
The press statement also disclosed that investigators want to see whether Ronaldo’s DNA matches DNA found on Kathryn Mayorga’s dress.
“The LVMPD is taking the same steps in this case as in any other sexual assault to facilitate the collection of DNA evidence.
“We can confirm that an official request has been submitted to Italian authorities.”
Reacting to the new development, Ronaldo’s lawyer, Peter Christiansen said yesterday:
“Mr. Ronaldo has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in Las Vegas in 2009 was consensual in nature, so it is not surprising that DNA would be present, nor that the police would make this very standard request as part of their investigation.”
