Speaking on Monday Night football, Gernot Rohr, Head coach of the Super Eagles, revealed that the sickness that led to Carl Ikeme’s retirement is his biggest pain in charge of the team.
“If there is one thing I would say gave me the greatest headache, it was the sickness of Carl Ikeme, it was very disappointing,”
Ikeme who Ikeme came to the consciousness of most Nigerians after he was invited to replace retiring Vincent Enyeama as goalkeeper of the Super Eagles. He had then gone ahead to earn 10 caps for Nigeria, particularly helping the country to qualify for the just-ended FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Unfortunately, the 32-year-old was diagnosed with acute leukemia just before the start of the World Cup, forcing out of both national and club assignments.
