The Director General of Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation (APCO), Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has said that the United States of America (USA) has asked former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to come forward and pick his visa.
Daniel, who is a former governor of Ogun State, revealed this during an interview on Channels Television programme, on Wednesday.
He said, “I can also confirm to you that in the last few days, there have been signals from the officials of the United States that he (Atiku) should come forward, that they will grant him visa. They want him to come to the United States of America,” he said.
In recent years it has been widely speculated that Mr Abubakar was ‘banned’ from entering the U.S. over allegations of financial impropriety levelled against him.
However, Daniel said the allegations were “mere politically-motivated perception,” stressing that opponents were lashing on it because they knew that some Nigerians are gullible.
“The issue of perception (corruption) has been over flogged. I remembered when we were running the campaign for the primary and people were talking about this; I told them it is nothing more than perception, politically-motivated perception,” he said.
He further said that ”as we move toward the real issues, people would just realise that this is just politically motivated issues.”
